You’s Nava Mau Is ‘So Scared’ of Spoiling New Season

Nava Mau can hardly contain her excitement over the new season of You. 

The actress, 32, told Us Weekly exclusively at the 40th Annual Artios Awards that filming the fifth and final season of the hit Netflix series was “surreal.” Mau guest stars as Marquez on the psychological thriller, which also stars Penn Badgley, Madeline Brewer and Anna Camp.   

“I cannot share,” Mau said when asked about the upcoming season. “I’m so scared of giving any kind of plot details up. It was surreal. I will say that. It was surreal to be there. All of a sudden, yeah, there’s Penn Badgley, there’s Madeline Brewer, there’s Anna Camp, like, ‘Oh, we’re all here.’ And seeing the cage, it’s just … yeah, surreal.”

Season 5 of You will see Badgley’s Joe Goldberg return to New York City to enjoy newlywed life with wife Kate Galvin-Lockwood (Charlotte Ritchie). Joe’s new chapter is soon threatened by “the ghosts of his past and his own dark desires,” according to the synopsis. 

Not much is known about Mau’s Marquez, but the Baby Reindeer alum did share that her character is “uncompromising” due to her career. 

“I was so happy to play somebody who — her job requires her to be tough,” Mau said. “Her job requires her to be uncompromising and yet also see through all the layers to connect with someone’s humanity. That’s ultimately her job, is to find the truth through someone’s humanity, and I was so happy to get to work on that.”

Badgley, 38, previously dished on the new season of You in a prerecorded message at Netflix’s Tudum event in June 2023. The Gossip Girl alum said he heard fans were on “the edge of [their] seats, waiting and theorizing about the epic conclusion to You.” 

“More importantly, considering what, or should I say who, Joe will come up against as he finally returns to New York,” Badgley added. “Though I can’t say who yet. We all know there are many loose ends in Joe’s past. The question is: Who are you?”

You season 5 premieres on Netflix Thursday, April 24.
