Why Ben Affleck Was Speaking to LAPD In His Neighborhood: Source
Ben Affleck was seen speaking with local police officers, but a source exclusively tells Us Weekly that the Oscar winner isn’t in any legal trouble.
“Ben was talking to police who are in his neighborhood right now because he lives right outside of a mandatory evacuation zone,” a source with knowledge of the situation tells Us. “There is a neighbor, who has private security, who has been interfering with residents getting to their own homes, Ben being one of them.”
Los Angeles, where the 52-year-old actor resides, is currently under a series of evacuation orders amid the ongoing string of devastating wildfires. Affleck was spotted speaking to law enforcement officials at the Los Angeles Police Department and Federal Bureau of Investigations outside his Brentwood, California home on Sunday, January 12, per photos published by TMZ.
The source tells Us that Affleck had a conversation with the “cops stationed in the neighborhood” about the private security firm that was allegedly preventing other residents from getting inside their respective homes.
“You can also see in the photos they ended up laughing about it,” the insider adds.
The FBI has also denied that Affleck is in any legal trouble. The Bureau was recently investigating drone activity in the actor’s neighborhood.
“Members of the FBI‘s Ground Intercept task force are conducting activity in the area of the Palisades fire relative to unauthorized drone activity,” a representative from the FBI’s press relations said in a Monday, January 13, statement. “Agents and our local partners may be visible throughout the area, including at various residences, for this reason.”
Us confirmed in July 2024 that Affleck bought his $20 million property shortly after separating from then-wife Jennifer Lopez. The singer, 55, filed for divorce the next month, which was finalized earlier in January.
According to court documents obtained by Us, Lopez and Affleck “agreed to divide all assets and liabilities” to avoid further litigation and expenses. They will also each retain personal belongings and earnings since they separated and half of their joint accounts. In addition, the pair’s shared L.A. mansion, which is currently on the market, will be divided between the twosome.
Affleck and Lopez reconnected in 2021 two decades after they called off their original engagement. Affleck proposed the next year and they wed in July 2023, renewing their vows the next month. Lopez filed for divorce on their second anniversary.
“I did all the work and look where I am, and then it was like my whole f—ing world exploded,” Lopez told Interview magazine in October 2024. “Sometimes, it’s going to work out great. And sometimes it won’t. And that’s f—ing OK, too. I was thinking about this time in my life, and I’m like, ‘That’s not what I thought it was going to turn out like.’”
Affleck, meanwhile, has yet to publicly address the breakup.
