Sutton Foster’s Divorce Case Is Ongoing Amid Hugh Jackman Romance
Sutton Foster’s divorce to Ted Griffin is still ongoing amid her romance with Hugh Jackman.
According to court documents obtained by In Touch, on November 19, Griffin, 53, responded to Foster’s divorce petition that had been filed the previous month. Foster, 49, then replied to the counterclaims on December 5. There has been no movement in the case since Foster filed her response, per the court docket.
After Foster’s initial marriage to fellow Broadway star Christian Borle from 2006 to 2009, Foster began a relationship with the screenwriter and the pair tied the knot in 2014. They went on to welcome daughter Emily three years later. News broke in October that Foster filed to end her marriage to Griffin just days before their 10th wedding anniversary; the next month, Us Weekly confirmed she was in a relationship with Jackman, 56.
Rumors began swirling of the couple’s romance when gossip blogger Tasha Lustig alleged on her Instagram that Jackman “blindsided” ex-wife Deborra-lee Furness by “running off with the mistress.” (Jackman and Furness, 69, announced their split in 2023.)
Furness “liked” the post from her private account while close friend Amanda de Cadenet supported her pal. “You are on point with this one,” she wrote. “My beloved friend Deb is about to have her glow up any moment fyi!”
Us confirmed in November that Music Man costars Foster and Jackman’s relationship turned romantic during the Broadway show’s 11-month run, and while they were both married to other people.
“Sutton and Hugh’s relationship is the reason Hugh and Deb got divorced,” a Foster source exclusively told Us in November. “A lot of people on Broadway knew, and we kept it quiet because both of them are so nice and great people. Everyone respected their privacy. But there was an affair and overlap.”
Jackman “didn’t own up” to the affair, Us learned. “Deborra-lee was blindsided when she found out about the affair through the run of the show,” an industry source said. “It was apparently Broadway’s worst-kept secret, and Deborra-lee was the last to know.”
As Jackman and Foster navigate their next chapter, an insider told Us that “they’re happier than ever.” Per the source, the duo are planning to keep their relationship out of the spotlight so their romance can “grow naturally.”
While Jackman and Foster pursue their connection, a source from the theater world told Us that they are not living together because of their kids. (Foster and Griffin share Emily, while Jackman and Furness adopted son Oscar, 24, in 2000 and daughter Ava, 19, in 2005.)
“But Sutton has told people on Broadway about the relationship,” the insider said. “Everyone [there] has known about this for a long time.”
