A suspect has been arrested in connection to the death of Telemundo Kansas City reporter Adan Manzano, local police confirmed.
Law enforcement officers in Kenner, Louisiana arrested Danette Colbert on Friday, February 7, according to the local Fox affiliate. Colbert had allegedly been using Manzano’s credit card at a handful of stores in the New Orleans area.
Colbert was booked for charges pertaining to property crimes, including fraud and theft. It is not presently known whether she was involved in the circumstances surrounding Manzano’s death. (The Kansas City-based reporter was 27 and a cause of death has not yet been confirmed.)
Manzano had traveled to New Orleans to cover the 2025 Super Bowl on behalf of Telemundo Kansas City, where he worked since 2021.
“We are sorry to share that Adan Manzano, reporter and sports anchor for Telemundo Kansas City passed away yesterday in New Orleans while on assignment to cover the Super Bowl for Telemundo KC and Tico Sports,” a translated Thursday, February 6, statement shared via the outlet’s Facebook page read. “We are cooperating with authorities as they investigate this tragic event. Adan was an exceptional professional and a rising star whose dedication and talent reflected excellence in his work.”
The statement added, “We will deeply miss Adan, his passion for sports and the contributions he made to the local community. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with his family and loved ones at this difficult time.”
Manzano had been documenting his 2025 Super Bowl experience on social media earlier this week.
“We’ve arrived in New Orleans to kick off our Super Bowl LIX coverage! 🎤 🏈,” he wrote in a joint Instagram post with Telemundo Kansas City on Sunday, February 2. “We are ready to bring you all the excitement, interviews, reactions and more, so you don’t miss the best of this great event, by Telemundo Kansas City, channel 39. And channel 36 on Columbia and Jefferson City.”
The next day, he was present at the opening ceremonies.
“‘Opening Night’ officially kicks off Super Bowl LIX week! 🌟,” a Monday, February 3, post on his Instagram read. “The teams, the excitement and all the stories surrounding this big event as Chiefs’ quest for the coveted tri-championship start here. Don’t miss any details of this great event by Telemundo Kansas City!”
The journalist previously covered the 2023 and 2024 Super Bowl games for the Telemundo affiliate, both of which the Kansas City Chiefs won.
“After quite an eventful two weeks, we can finally conclude the 2023 season,” Manzano wrote via Instagram in February 2024. “Not with the happy ending expected, but grateful to cover for the third season the Chiefs, a ‘Back to Back’ to the Superbowl [sic] and by the way, first see my #FinsUp 🏈🔥. Thank God, to my bosses for trusting this reporter on the court, and, as always, to my family and friends.”
Super Bowl LIX takes place at New Orleans’ Caesars Superdome on Sunday, February 9, between the Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles.
