Rosie O’Donnell Addresses Daughter Chelsea’s 3rd Arrest
Rosie O’Donnell has broken her silence on her daughter Chelsea O’Donnell’s third arrest.
“So yes this is true,” the actress, 62, wrote via Instagram on Tuesday, December 3, alongside a screenshot of a reporter reaching out via email for comment on Chelsea’s recent arrest. “After being bailed out by her birth mother — Chelsea was arrested again — and is facing many charges related to her drug addiction.”
Rosie continued: “We all hope she is able to get the help she needs to turn her life around.”
Us Weekly confirmed on Monday, December 2, that Chelsea, 27, was arrested in November while out on bail in Marinette County, Wisconsin. She was previously arrested in September and October and charged with child neglect and drug possession.
According to a police report obtained by Us earlier this month, Chelsea was a passenger in a vehicle that was pulled over due to loud exhaust. The officer noticed Chelsea had “pick marks” on her face and asked for any identifying information. After giving her name and date of birth, the officer ran her information and discovered she was out on bail for previous drug cases.
The officer ordered a K9 to conduct a sniff of the car, which resulted in a positive alert. Naloxone, which can be used to reverse the effects of an opiate overdose, was found in the car’s trunk. Chelsea was also searched for weapons, and she removed a “clear smoking device” from her bra. The device had residue inside which tested positive for methamphetamine, per the docs.
Chelsea was turned over to the Marinette County Jail where she was searched for a second time. Authorities found she was hiding a prescription pill bottle which included a clear bag of a crystal-like substance, a clear bag of hydrocodone, eight loose hydrocodone pills, 16 lamotrigine pills plus one whole and three halves of Alprazolam pills.
Chelsea faces five charges, which include two felony counts of possession of methamphetamine and an additional felony count of possession of narcotic drugs. She was also charged with resisting an officer and possession of drug paraphernalia, both being misdemeanors. She remains in custody and her next court date is scheduled for Thursday, December 12.
Chelsea was previously ordered to “maintain absolute sobriety” while out on bail, which was adjusted to $4,000, per docs obtained by Us. The terms included Chelsea refraining from alcoholic beverages in addition to not consuming — and possessing — any illegal drugs, drug paraphernalia or controlled substances without a valid prescription.
Chelsea is Rosie’s eldest daughter. The comedian adopted Chelsea as a baby with her ex-wife Kelli Carpenter. Rosie has four other children: Parker, 29, Blake, 24, Vivienne, 22, and Dakota, 11.
Following Chelsea’s October arrest, Rosie previously shared that her daughter’s struggles were a common occurrence.
“Chelsea is in the news today – this is a photo from a better time – here is the family comment,” she captioned a throwback picture of Chelsea. “Sadly this is not new for our family – Chelsea has struggled with drug addiction for a decade – we [are] all hopeful she will find her way out of this deadly disease.”
