Max Greenfield can happily picture himself trading in acting for a different role in the future.
“My dream world is that I can just retire and be a stay-at-home dad,” Greenfield, 45, exclusively told Us Weekly at the Thursday, February 13, premiere of his new Netflix series, Running Point. “[My wife, Tess Sanchez, can] just go out and be as big a star as I know she is.”
Two years after tying the knot in 2008, Greenfield and Sanchez, 40, became parents with the birth of their daughter, Lilly, 15. They went on to welcome their son, Ozzie, 9, in 2015.
Being the right-hand man to his romantic partner is something Greenfield shares with his Running Point character. The series, produced by Mindy Kaling, follows former party girl Isla Gordon (Kate Hudson) as she is put in charge of her family’s professional basketball team, the Los Angeles Waves. Greenfield plays Isla’s fiancé, Lev Levenson, who supports Isla as she navigates the ins and outs of the family business.
“You are the smartest Gordon I know,” Lev tells Isla in the show’s trailer, before adding, “I know that’s not a high bar.”
The idea that his character would feel undermined by his partner’s success is something Greenfield told Us “never really crossed my mind.” He stated, “I have a wife who’s got a book coming out — We’ve Decided to Go in a Different Direction — April 1. Very excited about it. And she’s always been somebody who has had a career and done her own independent thing. It never crossed my mind not to be supportive of that.”

Greenfield may be his wife’s biggest fan, but his kids don’t share the same love for his career. When asked whether his daughter, who turned 15 last month, thinks his being on TV is cool, Greenfield replied, “No. Not at all. She does not.”
The New Girl alum continued: “Every once in a while, there’s a perk that she’s like, ‘Well, this is nice.’ But other than that, not excited.”
Fitting with his latest role, Greenfield told Us one thing that gets him excited is watching his favorite NBA team, the New York Knicks, do well. “If the Knicks win or lose, that really is determinant of how I’m feeling in the world,” he shared. “I think happiness is always a discovery. And I tend to discover it when the Knicks win. Go, Knicks, go, Jalen [Brunson]. But also [the Los Angeles] Lakers because we’re here with Running Point and I love them. They’re my second favorite team.”
In addition to Running Point, fans can catch Greenfield in new episodes of CBS sitcom The Neighborhood later this year. The show’s upcoming season 7 finale is set to serve as a backdoor pilot for a potential spinoff starring Marcel Spears and Sheaun McKinney.

“They’re both so, so great. And I think it’s such a smart move because we’ve been doing the show for so long,” Greenfield gushed while talking about his CBS costars. “Those guys are so capable and deserving of their own thing. And so, it would be really nice to see our show morph into what could be a long-running version of their show because I love those guys, and they are so, so talented.”
Running Point premieres on Netflix Thursday, February 27.
