Luigi Mangione Hires Lawyer Connected to Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Case
Luigi Mangione, the suspect of shooting and killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, hired attorney Karen Friedman Agnifilo to represent him. In an unexpected coincidence, Friedman Agnifilo is married to another lawyer in the news: Marc Agnifilo, who is involved in Sean “Diddy” Combs’ case.
A spokesperson for Friedman Agnifilo’s firm, Agnifilo Intrater LLP, confirmed to Us Weekly that she was retained to represent Mangione, 26, in New York. Friedman Agnifilo will “not be making any statements at this time,” the spokesperson told Us.
Mangione is suspected of killing Thompson outside an entrance to the New York Hilton Midtown Hotel in New York City on December 4. Following a five-day search, Mangione was arrested on December 9.
He has been charged with murder and is facing four additional charges, including one count of forging a document and criminally possessing a firearm. Mangione is currently being held at the State Correctional Institution at Huntingdon in Pennsylvania.
Marc Agniflo’s client Diddy, 55, made headlines in November 2023 when ex-girlfriend Cassie accused him of sexual abuse in a lawsuit. One of Diddy’s lawyers, Ben Brafman, denied the accusations on his behalf at the time, and the case was settled one day later.
Following Cassie’s complaint, several lawsuits have since been filed against Diddy, including Danity Kane’s Aubrey O’Day and Kimora Lee Simmons.
In March 2024, several of Diddy’s homes — including residences in Miami and Los Angeles — were raided by Homeland Security in connection to a sex trafficking investigation. In September, Diddy was arrested in New York City and indicted on charges of sex trafficking and racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution. He has denied all allegations against him.
After Diddy was arrested, Marc Agnifilo said during an appearance on CNN’s The Source With Kaitlan Collins that his client is not guilty. “He’s innocent,” Agnifilo said. “I believe he’s innocent. I believe he’s innocent of the charges,” he said. “He is going to go to trial. And I believe he’s going to win.”
Diddy is currently incarcerated at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center. He has been denied bail four times. On December 13, People reported that Diddy dropped his latest appeal to be released on bail.
One day before Diddy’s withdrawal of bail, Us confirmed that the music mogul was accused of sexual assault by three more alleged victims. Per the documents obtained by Us, the unnamed alleged victims claimed that Diddy drugged and sexually assaulted them.
Diddy’s attorneys told Us in a statement that “these complaints are full of lies.” The statement continued, “We will prove them false and seek sanctions against every unethical lawyer who filed fictional claims against him.”
Diddy’s trial is set to begin in 2025.
