Inside Ellen DeGeneres’ ‘Super Understated’ Life in U.K.: Source
Ellen DeGeneres is taking in the British sights amid news that she and her wife, actress Portia de Rossi, moved across the pond.
DeGeneres, 66, was recently spotted at the famed U.K. hotspot Soho Farmhouse earlier this month, according to an eyewitness.
“She was with two female friends walking from the car park towards the farm buildings where the clubhouse is — we passed on a stone bridge over a stream,” the fellow guest exclusively tells Us Weekly. “She was dressed in a country casual way. She was super understated and no one was really paying much attention to her … but then you just don’t expect to see Ellen there as it’s more a haunt of U.K. celebrities.”
The insider initially thought that DeGeneres was an uncanny doppelgänger for the former Ellen DeGeneres Show host until hearing her speak to an acquaintance.
Soho Farmhouse is a luxurious member’s club and hotel in The Cotswolds, where the likes of David Beckham, Victoria Beckham, Sharon Osbourne and Simon Cowell are known to frequent.
“Soho House is a club for creatives. We exist to provide a home for our members to come together and belong, wherever they are in the world,” a website description reads. “Today, we have Houses across the world, and each one is designed to be comfortable and characterful, offering our members a unique yet familiar experience every time they visit. The Houses have spaces for drinking, dining, relaxing, working and exercising.”
Another local tells Us that DeGeneres is “definitely a lot less well-known” in the U.K. but “she’s still famous,” adding, “People know who she is but the thing about the Cotswolds is no one gives a f— if you’re Kate Moss or the farmer’s wife.”
The Cotswolds location of Soho Farmhouse sits two hours outside the hustle and bustle of capital city London.
News broke on Thursday, November 21, that DeGeneres and de Rossi, 51, moved away from California, to a new residence in the Cotswolds. They have not publicly addressed the move.
DeGeneres and the Scandal alum have been married since 2008, where they lived in a sprawling mansion in Montecito, California and were notably neighbors to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who coincidentally moved from the U.K. in 2020. (Harry, 40, and Meghan, 43, relocated to the United States after stepping down from their duties as senior working royals.)
“We were home and we saw you guys, which was great,” Meghan recalled to DeGeneres during a November 2021 appearance on her eponymous talk show about Halloween. “We wanted to do something fun for the kids and then the kids were just not into it at all.”
Harry and Meghan, who share 5-year-old Prince Archie and 3-year-old Princess Lilibet, also attended DeGeneres and de Rossi’s vow renewal ceremony in February 2023.
