Hailee Steinfeld Didn’t Want to Know About Josh Allen’s Proposal

While on vacation with her boyfriend of nearly two years in Malibu, actress and pop star Hailee Steinfeld was completely caught off guard.
In a Wednesday, February 19, interview with Who What Wear, Steinfeld admitted she had no idea her now fiancé Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen was going to propose to her while spending quality time together in one of her favorite places.
“Oh my God, no!” Steinfeld told Who What Wear when asked if she had any inkling at all that Allen, 28, was going to pop the question.
“You talk to your girlfriends about that, right, where you’re like, ‘I just don’t want to know.’” And that’s exactly how Allen made it happen.
As a result of the intimate surprise, the Sinners star said she is “so grateful that he did it the way he did so that I looked good, and we have these photos that we’ll have and cherish for the rest of our lives that I’m not looking at being like, ‘What was I wearing?’” Steinfeld added.
The pictures taken of the moment will do more than just prove she had on a spectacular outfit, they’ll simply help to remind Steinfeld of that special day.
Admitting that she “fully blacked out” when Allen proposed, the 28-year-old considers the day a fairy tale. “We were in Malibu, which is my happy place, and it was magical. That’s the word,” she explained.
Despite their desire to keep their relationship private, Steinfeld and Allen shared one of those picture with their millions of social media followers on November 29, 2024.
As for the couple’s future plans now that they are engaged, it’s likely Steinfeld and Allen will keep many of those details close to the vest and away from the public.
“When you realize that so much is already out there in every other aspect of your life, you really learn to cherish the little that isn’t. It just makes things extra special, and it’s just for you,” Steinfeld said of keeping her relationship with Allen private.
But when she does share more details, it’s likely fans will find them in her weekly newsletter, Beau Society.
Finding social media a bit too noisy, Steinfeld says she uses the newsletter to keep the communication going between herself and her fans.
“It feels like a space in which I feel safe and comfortable sharing more than I generally would,” Steinfeld says. “It has pushed me into embracing change and embracing the fact that, as an actor, you’re protected by the character that you play, and it’s a really great feeling to have that. … I get to be as vulnerable as possible, and I don’t have to tell you anything else.”
