Andy Roddick ‘Couldn’t Have More Respect’ for Ex Mandy Moore
Andy Roddick gushed about his ex Mandy Moore two decades after they originally called it quits.
Roddick, 42, referenced Moore, 40, while looking back on his life in 2004 during an interview with People published on Wednesday, October 30.
“I couldn’t have more respect for her,” Roddick said. “We were certainly young, with our whole lives ahead of us, but she’s someone who I am thankful for.”
Roddick noted how he has “always appreciated” Moore. He also mentioned that his wife, Brooklyn Decker, has exchanged messages with Moore as well over the years.
“I think she’s a 10-out-of-10 human,” the retired tennis player added.
Roddick’s comments come after Moore called him a “formative part” of her young adult life.
“Although we’re not in touch, I was so moved by this article reflecting on the 20th anniversary of his US Open win and the kind of life he’s lead since,” Moore wrote via Instagram Stories in August 2023 after GQ published a profile on Roddick for the 20th anniversary of his US Open win. “I’m so happy for him and his family. Congrats on this milestone Andy!”
Roddick and Moore began dating in 2003 after her mom invited him to come meet Moore on the set of the rom-com How to Deal.
“About the last three weeks of the film, I meet this guy who completely just steals my heart. I’m so happy and crushing on him. I have Mom to thank for that,” she told CBS’ The Early Show in 2003. “Luckily, Andy obliged, accepted the invitation and came and met me on the set. I watched his tennis match the next day and the rest is history, I guess.”
One year after the athlete took home the US Open championship title, the couple called it quits in 2004. Moore moved on with Ryan Adams, who she was married to from 2009 to 2016. She has since found love with Taylor Goldsmith. Moore and Goldsmith, 39, exchanged vows in 2018 and have since welcomed sons Gus, 3, and Ozzie, 2, and daughter Louise, 1 month.
“He has just surpassed any expectation I had [as] a partner and a parent,” Moore exclusively told Us Weekly of Goldsmith in 2022. “He’s just exceptional in every way. And I knew he was going to be, but … he’s exceeded every expectation I ever could have had. I feel so lucky that I get to do this with him.”
Moore called Goldsmith “remarkable” throughout her pregnancies — especially her second.
“But he just really stepped up in such a [big] way to help with chasing after a very energetic toddler,” she added at the time. “It was taxing in a way that I wasn’t expecting, but he’s the very best. I feel very lucky for all of us that these guys get to have him as their dad. And he’s stuck with me now forever.”
Roddick, for his part, married Decker, 37, in 2009, and the two share a son, Hank, 7, and a daughter, Stevie, 5.
Roddick previously opened up about how he and Decker work to keep their spark alive, telling Us in 2022, “I think with work and kids, I think that we’re a really good team. I think we know that we each try to go above and beyond with our household responsibilities and the kids. And so, I don’t think we ever question either [person’s] effort at all [which] leads to kind of more of a calming situation.”
