Amy Poehler is launching a new podcast, and she called on a few friends to give her advice before doing so — including her ex-husband, Will Arnett.
“So you’re doing a podcast, huh? That is awesome,” Arnett, 54, said. Though he cohosts the “Smartless” podcast, he quickly skipped giving Poehler advice, instead shifting to something more serious: “Would you happen to know my blood type? I’m gonna put it down in this form.”
Poehler and Arnett married in 2003 and share two sons, Archie, 16, and Abel, 14. Though they divorced in 2012, both have only ever had good things to say about one another. “It’s been almost 10 years and my kids are so lucky that Amy is their mother, and I’m so lucky that we’re such a huge part of each other’s lives, even more so than we were five years ago,” Arnett told The Guardian in 2022.
The promo for “Good Hang with Amy Poehler” also includes snippets of advice from several of Poehler’s former coworkers at Saturday Night Live, including Rachel Dratch and Seth Meyers.
“Hey, I got an email from my agent saying I need to record a video for you for charity, but then I clicked the link and it took me to a GoFundMe page. So I kind of have a bad feeling about this,” Meyers, 51, joked during his own contribution.
Meanwhile Dratch, 58, got right to the point and said, “I love true crime and cooking podcasts. Is there any way you can combine the two?”
Poehler, 53, announced the new podcast in an interview on the Today show on Monday, February 10. “I checked and I’m officially the last person to not have a podcast, so I figured I’d jump in,” she told Savannah Guthrie.
She also insisted her podcast will be more focused on laughter and having fun. “These are tough times. We’re just trying to have a good laugh,” she said. “I think sometimes we ask women to be teachers and healers. I’m looking for some good, dumb fun.”

“Listen, I’m here for that. No gurus! Please, I don’t want to learn anything,” Guthrie replied. “I would like to leave dumber. Can you promise me that?”
“I want to just start getting worse,” Poehler answered back.
The news release for Poehler’s podcast explains she “will offer a hilarious mix of comedy, personal stories and not-too-serious conversations with esteemed guests” about “what makes them laugh, what they found funny recently and much more. She’ll also talk to the people in her life about what makes her laugh and to solicit questions for podcast guests.”
Bill Simmons, who runs The Ringer (the Spotify-owned company that will coproduce the new podcast), told Deadline of the show, “Amy should have one of the biggest podcasts in the world — she’s a great hang, she’s funny, she’s curious, she knows everybody, and she actually loves the genre and puts real thought into what works and what doesn’t work.”
“It’s amazing,” he added. “I can’t believe she actually wants to do this. We are over the moon that we get to work with her.”
