Ali Fedotowsky Reveals Late Bachelor Star Inspired Her Vegetarian Diet
Ali Fedotowsky is choosing to honor late The Bachelor contestant Gia Allemand through her dietary habits.
Fedotowsky, 40, explained on the Monday, December 23, episode of Kaitlyn Bristowe’s “Off the Vine” podcast that she was “so sick” while hosting a travel show called First Look and eating different cuisines. While at an event for The Bachelor in New York, Fedotowsky began discussing her struggles with Allemand.
“I tell her how I’m feeling, she’s like, ‘You should try being pescetarian. I’ve been pescetarian for years. I feel so good.’ Which means, like, only eating fish and stuff. I was like, ‘OK,’” Fedotowsky said. “And so we have this dinner, and then, like, 10 days later, she dies.”
After appearing on Jake Pavelka’s season 14 of The Bachelor in 2010 alongside Fedotowsky, Allemand died by suicide at age 29 in 2013.
“After that, I thought, like, ‘Oh, I’m gonna be pescetarian for two weeks,’ like at that dinner we had,” Fedotowsky said. “And when that happened, every single time I went to have a bite of meat, or think about it, I couldn’t, because I thought of Gia.”
Fedotowsky continued, “I haven’t had a single bite of meat since that dinner I had with her, like, 14 years, 13 years ago, and I’ve been vegetarian ever since.”
The former Bachelorette explained that she had “not really told that story fully” until now. “I’ve kind of, like said it, like, briefly in an Instagram story here or there, but that is the reason to this day,” she said.
Fedotowsky, who went on to wed Kevin Manno in 2017, explained that her husband went on to omit meat from his diet as well. (Fedotowsky and Manno, 41, share daughter Molly, 8, and son Riley, 6.)
“My husband, he was a full meat eater when I met him, and then we watched some documentaries, and he became straight vegan at that point,” she said. “Now, he’s not, because we live in the south and it’s harder to find stuff.”
While recalling her friendship with Allemand, Fedotowsky explained that the twosome reconnected after the show.
“We actually butt heads a little bit on The Bachelor, but then came back together after anything that even says more just about the type of person she is,” Fedotowsky said, calling Allemand “so lovely.”
