It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Abbott Elementary’s crossover fun is continuing at the Super Bowl!
Always Sunny cast members (and real-life husband and wife) Rob McElhenney and Kaitlin Olson shared a photo of themselves via X alongside Abbott’s Quinta Brunson and Tyler James Williams on Saturday, February 8. The group is in New Orleans to support the Philadelphia Eagles, who will face off against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, February 9.
This isn’t the first time there’s been an Eagles fandom crossover. In November 2024, Brunson and McElhenney cheered for the Eagles in a promo for both Always Sunny and Abbott.
The respective casts for each show recently participated in the first of two crossover episodes. Abbott star Lisa Ann Walter spoke to Us Weekly exclusively about the two-episode arc in December 2024.
“There is a lot of foolishness and shenanigans that go on when those people come on set,” she said at the time. “They are way less constrained by the words on the page so we have a lot of fun. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”
“I actually just really enjoyed talking to all of them outside of the characters,” she continued. “Any time we have guest stars that come in, I like to — whether they’re big and famous like those guys or not — I love to hear what their story is. But with them it was just a lot of talking about where their kids went to school.”
Walter also added that Brunson, series star and creator, doesn’t always give cast members a lot of information about where their characters are headed in their storylines.
“Quinta plays it so close to the chest,” she said. “Every once in a while she’ll come up like when we’re at a For Your Consideration event [to say], ‘You are gonna be so excited about this story line for your character. Oh wait, I’m not gonna tell.’”
Both Abbott and Always Sunny are set in Philadelphia. It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia premiered in 2005 and follows a group of conceited friends and bar owners. Abbott Elementary, which debuted in 2021, follows the stories of teachers and students at the titular, fictional school.
In January, several cast members from It’s Always Sunny, including Charlie Day and Danny DeVito alongside McElhenney and Olson, joined Abbott for a special episode. The Abbott cast is expected to appear on Sunny soon.
In an October 2024 interview, Brunson exclusively told Us the idea of a crossover between the two shows was “very cool.”
“I think that it’ll be a delight to the audience of both shows,” she told Us. “I think it’ll be very exciting for the people who watch our shows and, if they watch one show and not the other, I think that’s cool, too.”
