Savannah Guthrie Regrets Khloe Kardashian Question About OJ Simpson

Savannah Guthrie is looking back at an awkward interview she conducted with Khloé Kardashian as a “naive, green anchor.”

Guthrie, 53, interviewed Kardashian, 40, in 2012, the Today co-anchor’s first year on the job. She recalled her producers insisting she ask if OJ Simpson is Kardashian’s father.

“There had been these stories circulating in the press that her father, Robert Kardashian, wasn’t really her father,” Guthrie explained during a Thursday, February 6 appearance on Andy Cohen’s SiriusXM show, Radio Andy.

“Who knows? I can’t even remember the details,” Guthrie continued. “But I know the producers at the time — none of whom are here today — really wanted me to ask, and I was very embarrassed to ask such a question.”

Unsure of how to proceed, Guthrie said she waited until the final seconds to spring the question on Khloe, right as the show was about to go to commercial.

“At the Today Show, we have a thing called the ‘hard out,’ and the ‘hard out’ means you have to be done,” she explained. “The show is going to black at such and such time.”

“I said, ‘Khloé, just real quickly, in the seconds we have, there have been some stories that Robert Kardashian is not your father. Is he?’” she said. “And God bless her — if I saw her today, I’d hug her for this — I don’t know if she’s such a pro that she saw them counting down, like three, two … and she said, ‘Yep, I know. Nothing to it.’ And I was like, ‘And we’ll be right back.’ She saved my butt.”

‘Khloé and Simpson, who died in 2024, have both denied the rumors. When they circulated again in 2017, Khloé fired back in a post via X.

“People are a—holes but I don’t care lol I focus on the good,” she wrote.

Simpson appeared on the “Full Send” podcast in 2022 where he was also asked about Khloé.

“The rumor ain’t true,” he said emphatically. “It’s not even anywhere close to being true.”

Simpson and Robert, who died in 2003, were close friends during Khloé’s childhood. Robert was part of the team that represented the ex-NFL player during his infamous trial where he was acquitted for the murders of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman. (Simpson was later found liable for their deaths in a civil suit.)

Khloé’s mom, Kris Jenner, admitted to having an affair while she was married to Robert in her 2011 memoir “Kris Jenner…And All Things Kardashian,” but said it was not with Simpson.

They divorced in 1991 when Khloé was 7.
