Who’s The Boss’ Danny Pintauro Hospitalized After Scooter Accident
Who’s The Boss? star Danny Pintauro was hospitalized after a scooter accident led to a tear in his stomach lining.
On Sunday, December 1, Pintauro, 48, shared via Instagram that the terrifying accident happened on Thanksgiving night, November 28, when the bike lane he was riding in “was suddenly blocked with cones” and he was forced to “choose between a van and a pylon.”
“The pylons hurt!! Have a terrible scrape on my arm and I was pretty convinced I had broken my arm,” Pintauro explained in his post. “The next morning it was a whole lot better so I didn’t worry as much.”
Despite thinking he was OK, Pintauro told his followers that on Saturday, November 30, he began to have “weird chest pains” that felt like his “hiatal hernia was acting up.”
“Before long the pain was so significant all across my chest and my stomach muscles and my shoulder muscles that I could barely breath [sic]. It was the worse [sic] moment of my life,” he said. “[My husband] Wil [Tabares] drove me to the hospital and after all kinds of tests, a CAT scan, an x-ray, and bloodwork, they discovered that I had an infection in my bloodstream due to a tear in my stomach lining – air and stomach acid etc were escaping into my abdomen.”
Pintauro noted that it had been the “most excruciating pain” he had ever felt in his life and he had to have emergency surgery to repair the tear in his stomach.
“The surgery went well, and now that it’s fixed, the pain is pretty much gone away, although I’m very sore,” he shared. “They just took the intubation tube out, but I have to leave another tube in my stomach for three days to keep removing the acids so as to not upset the stitches and repair they did. Which also means that I won’t be eating or drinking anything for the next three days. They always say this but it’s very true, if I had waited any longer, I could have died. My body was the one who told me something was absolutely wrong.”
The actor went on to thank those who helped save his life including his “wonderful” husband and the surgeon who was “so friendly and had so much confidence in him.”
“So keep me in your prayers for the next few days that the repair sticks and that I can get out of here soon,” he added. “Unfortunately, it means that any of the Book Nooks I was working on will have to wait a few more days so I will change the shipping dates to reflect. I hope that’s okay. This is my first major surgery, first emergency surgery EVER but I kept it together. It was absolutely terrifying. If anybody might wanna send me flowers, I wouldn’t be opposed. Lol just kidding. I’m stressed, hungry, in pain and exhausting [sic]. Light a candle for me okay? Oooh They did an x-ray of my arm and it’s not broken! So there’s one bright side.”
One of Pintauro’s Who’s the Boss’ costars Alyssa Milano took to the comment section to share her support.
“Oh no! I’m so sorry,” Milano, 51, wrote.
Pinaturo is best known for starring as Jonathan Bower in Who’s the Boss?, which ran for eight seasons from 1984 to 1992.
