Young Thug Co-Defendant Stabbed While Awaiting Jury Verdict in YSL Gang Trial

Deamonte “Yak Gotti” Kendrick, one of the remaining co-defendants in the still ongoing YSL gang trial, was stabbed in Fulton County Jail in Atlanta, according to his lawyer, Douglas Weinstein.

Weinstein confirmed the attack in posts on X and TikTok Monday morning, Dec. 2. He said he spoke with Kendrick Sunday night (Dec. 1), while he was waiting to be taken to a hospital for stitches. “While he sounded tired I expect him to make a full recovery,” Weinstein wrote on X.

Weinstein admitted he did not know the full extent of Kendrick’s condition or injuries, but said he expects to know more when Kendrick appears in court today. “I don’t know the results of what happened at the hospital,” he said on TikTok. “It’s very, very difficult — nigh impossible — to get information from the hospital on these things. Traveling to the hospital makes no difference.”

Per local CBS affiliate Atlanta News First, a spokesperson for the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office said, “Kendrick received treatment for minor injuries from a sharp object at the Fulton County Jail. The incident occurred at the South Annex in Union City where both men were being housed. Kendrick will be in court today. This is an active investigation to determine the aggressor in this incident and if charges will be pending.”

The stabbing comes as Kendrick and Shannon Stillwell — the last remaining defendants in the current YSL gang trial — await a verdict from the jury. Deliberations began last week, and both are facing murder, gang, and racketeering charges in the massive YSL indictment. (They have pleaded not guilty.)

Back in 2022, Kendrick was involved in a fight with another unidentified inmate, who reportedly tried to stab him with a homemade knife. Stillwell was also stabbed during a jail fight in late 2023, causing one of the many delays that have plagued the YSL trial, which has become the longest criminal case in Georgia’s history.

A total of 28 defendants — including Young Thug and Gunna — were charged in the original RICO Act violation indictment, which was first brought in 2022. Nine took plea deals before the current trial started (including Gunna), while 12 others are set to be tried separately. Back in October, Young Thug was finally released from jail after pleading out his case; he was sentenced to time served, 15 years probation, and a consecutive sentence of 20 years that only kicks in if he violates the terms of his probation.
