Channing Tatum and Zoe Kravitz Split: 7 Rules For Working Together
We’re used to celebrities getting together on movie sets. What we’re not used to is hearing that a seemingly rock-solid celebrity couple has split, mere hours after announcing that they’re working on a fun new project together.
And yet here we are: on Tuesday, October 29, it was revealed that smoking hot and much-loved Hollywood couple Channing Tatum and Zoe Kravitz would be co-starring in Alpha Gang together, alongside fellow A-list talent like Cate Blanchett, Riley Keough and Dave Bautista. Then, later that very same day, reports emerged that the couple, who fell in love on the Blink Twice set in 2021 and got engaged last year, had broken up. Whaaaaaat?
With the movie, about a bunch of alien invaders disguised as a leather-clad biker gang, set to start shooting in spring of next year, the former couple need to make a plan to get through this curveball as unscathed as possible. Tatum, 44, and Kravitz, 35, are not the first exes who’ve had to work together, though, so there are a few unwritten rules to follow — except we’re writing them…
Rule 1: Be Kind To Yourself
No matter how amicable a split may be, ultimately people break up because they don’t like each other as much as they used to, and that is hard. These days, it’s not so much about burning your ex’s belongings as untagging them in all your Instagram photos, but if you’re still going to have to see them regularly, those breakup rituals feel a little pointless. Brace yourself for some tough workdays, and make some plans for your free time — not that Hollywood stars have much downtime when they’re shooting a movie — that will keep you feeling as calm and content as possible in the circumstances. Both Kravitz and Tatum are apparently lovers of the outdoors, so finding time to breathe in some fresh air could be just the thing (as long as they avoid hiking the same trails…).
Rule 2: Assemble Your Squad
This isn’t high school, you don’t want to be the one sitting alone at lunch while your ex has pointedly loud and obnoxious conversations with their friends. Both parties need to make sure they have some good people to hang out with who can be by their side when things get tough. If we were Kravitz, we’d be looking to two-time Oscar winner Blanchett as a potential shoulder to cry on. She’s older and therefore wiser, and we know she has some death stares in her repertoire to unleash if truly necessary.
Rule 3: Try Not to be Petty
Or at least be petty in private. If your ex has any annoying foibles (or, say, forgets a line), you need to resist the urge to roll your eyes and or make sassy remarks at work, whether that’s an office or a movie set. Instead, give it your all when it comes to being cool, calm and oh-so professional, even if it pains you. Tatum and Kravitz have an obvious advantage here — they’re great actors, so they’ve definitely got it in them to play it cool even if they’re suffering on the inside. Any frustrations can be worked out in the trailer later (does anyone have a spare Magic Mike lifesize cut-out that could double up as a dartboard?).
Rule 4: Don’t Make Your Co-workers Pick Sides
There’s a fine line between making sure you have friends to turn to, and forcing those friends to pick a team. Since you all have to work together, it’s just not fair to bad-mouth your ex to your colleagues. Jackie From Finance might love the gossip, and maybe Dave Bautista does too, but ultimately it makes everyone feel a little awkward.
Rule 5: Brace Yourself for Nosy Questions
When anyone breaks up, people talk. And if they happen to be huge Hollywood stars, boy do they talk. While this shocking break-up might be great publicity for the movie, with its release (sometime in 2026, we guess?) will come a publicity trail where Tatum and Kravitz are likely to be asked some awkward questions. It’s something Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart had to deal with when they ended things between shooting the final Twilight movie and promoting it, so if Kravitz or Tatum happen to have their numbers, they could have some wise words to share.
Rule 6: Don’t Try to Make Each Other Jealous
“Leather-clad alien biker gang” sounds kind of hot, right? No doubt Tatum and Kravitz will both be looking seriously sexy on the Alpha Gang set — so it will be tempting to rub their hotness in each other’s faces, and potentially even flirt with some of their other aesthetically blessed co-stars. Rebounds are real — and brutal for the wounded party. These two are grown-ups, so let’s hope they keep it as unsexy as possible on set, even if that’s genetically impossible.
Rule 7: Never, Ever Get Back Together. Like, Ever
Well, unless you both really want to, anyway. Both Kravitz and Tatum have spoken in the past about how their mutual passion for their craft was a huge part of their attraction. “Art is our love language,” Kravitz said at the Blink Twice premiere just a few months ago, while Tatum told People in July, “If you are thinking about having a kid or if you’re thinking about getting married, go find the hardest possible creative project with your partner.” If these two have any unfinished business, there’s a chance that working together, especially as sexy aliens, could reignite the spark. Would that be a good idea? We guess we’ll find out …
