Scissor Sisters May Be Getting Ready to Take Your Mama Out Again After 12 Year Hiatus

Early-aughts dance rock greats the Scissor Sisters may be gearing up for some kind of return after going on hiatus in 2012.

It’s extremely unclear what exactly is going on at the moment, though the band’s primary social media pages (Instagram, Facebook, and X) have all been updated to feature images of what look like television static. There’s mailing list fans can sign up for, as well.

Somewhat more telling was the sudden appearance of the Scissor Sisters’ logo on the facade of the Co-op Live arena in Manchester, England, potentially hinting at live return or U.K. tour. The Co-op Live instagram account shared a photo of the venue with a caption that just contained the “👀” emoji.

Scissor Sisters announced their hiatus almost exactly 12 years ago, at an Oct. 23, 2012 concert in London. They formed in 2000, emerging out of New York City’s queer nightlife and electroclash scenes, but finding their earliest success in the U.K. Their self-titled debut featured a handful of standout singles, including “Take Your Mama,” “Flighty/Gorgeous,” and a dancefloor ready cover of Pink Floyd’s “Comfortably Numb.”

Scissor Sisters’ second album, Ta-Dah, featured their biggest hit, “I Don’t Feel like Dancin’,” which went to Number One in the U.K., several other European countries, and Australia. While the band never notched a song on the Billboard Hot 100, they did top the U.S. Dance chart three times with “Filthy Gorgeous,” “Fire With Fire,” and “Let’s Have a Kiki” (which received a rather memorable cover on Glee featuring Sarah Jessica Parker).

After Ta-Dah, Scissor Sisters released two more albums, 2010’s Night Work and 2012’s Magic Hour. After announcing their hiatus, the bandmembers embarked upon an array of different solo projects.
