Trump throws weight behind GOP candidate Christine Sculti in Westchester County special election

President Trump threw his weight behind the GOP candidate in the Westchester County executive’s special election set for Tuesday, blasting Democrats in the Big Apple suburb for “protecting” criminal migrants.

The president injected himself Monday afternoon into the little-known race which pits acting County Executive Ken Jenkins, a Democrat, against Republican challenger Christine Sculti in a bid to wrap up the rest of George Latimer’s term after he resigned to start his gig in Congress last month.

“On Tuesday, February 11th, there is an important Special Election for Westchester County Executive in New York! Democrats have made Westchester County a ‘Sanctuary County’ protecting criminal illegals!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“Republicans, Conservatives, and Common Sense Voters must GET OUT THE VOTE, and send a message to the Corrupt Democrats. No more protecting criminal aliens. VOTE REPUBLICAN!”

Lawmakers in the heavily blue county passed legislation in 2018 in response to Trump’s hardline immigration stance during his first term in the White House.

The Immigrant Protection Act instructs county agencies, including the Department of Corrections, not to engage in the enforcement of federal immigration law, including accepting detainer requests unless attached to a judicial warrant.

It limits information county officials can share with federal immigration authorities and prevents county workers from asking a person’s immigration status in most cases.

Jenkins was Latimer’s deputy county executive when the measure was signed into law.

Sculti vowed Monday to scrap the county’s “sanctuary” status and “protect Westchester residents from criminals and taxpayers from wrong-headed policymaking.”

“We are very grateful to President Trump for raising awareness of this crucial special election, which is all about Ken Jenkins’ disastrous sanctuary law,” Sculti said in a statement.

“Right now criminal illegal aliens are protected from federal authorities in Westchester, but we can change everything and make Westchester safer if our people show up as the president urged them to do.”

But Jenkins’ team batted down the county’s “sanctuary” designation in a statement to The Post.

“Westchester County is not and has never been a sanctuary county, which our opponent should know but apparently doesn’t. But the law in place now is the same law that was in place under Trump 1 and Biden,” a campaign spokesperson said.

“Here’s the reality: Ken Jenkins is the proud son of an NYPD officer, and built a career delivering real results for Westchester County. Trump lost here by a nearly 2-1 margin in November, so if our opponent wants to attach herself to the Trump-Musk dumpster fire of incompetence and rage, she’s welcome to do so.”
