Republican lawmaker is fundraising off petition to ‘arrest and deport’ Rep. Ilhan Omar to Somalia

A Texas Republican lawmaker has blasted out a petition calling for Somali American Rep. Ilhan Omar to be arrested and deported to her birth country, saying the US “would be a much better place if she were to be sent back.”

Rep. Brandon Gill urged his supporters to back the petition in a recent fundraising email after footage emerged last week of the “Squad” congresswoman (D-Minn.) advising Somali-born constituents on what to do if they’re questioned by ICE officials.

“Friend, we should have never let Ilhan Omar into our country,” according to a copy of the email obtained by Axios.

“The time has come to arrest and deport Ilhan Omar.”

Omar, who is the first Somali American in Congress, came to the United States as a refugee in 1995 during the Somali Civil War. She became a citizen in 2000 when she was 17.

The Democrat’s immigrant background has long been seized on by her critics and made her the subject of numerous headlines — including a Daily Mail report that she allegedly married her second husband, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, a British citizen rumored to be her brother, just so he could obtain a green card.

Omar has previously dismissed the brother-marrying claims, which were at one point probed by the FBI, as “disgusting lies.”

Meanwhile, elsewhere in his fundraising email, Gill — a first-term House Republican who reps Texas’s 26th Congressional District, which includes some northern suburbs in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex — also accused Omar of “facilitating a full-scale invasion of our country.”

“Recently, it came out that Ilhan Omar is hosting free workshops for Somalians, who are in our country illegally, on how to evade ICE and deportation,” he alleged.

“It could not be more blatant: lhan Omar is more loyal to illegal Somalians than she is to the United States, or the office she was elected to. It is an absolute disgrace.”

“I have had my fill of foreigners storming our border, complaining about and disparaging our country, and then helping more and more of them invade our lands… And I know the American people are too,” Gill, 30, continued.

“If you’re as sick and tired of it as I am, sign my petition and let’s send her back to Somalia where she belongs.”

His petition doubled down on tweets he posted last week after Omar’s ICE raid advice surfaced.

Omar, 42, meanwhile, ripped the GOP lawmaker as “racist” and a “fascist.”

“It is truly disgusting that members of the Republican party feel emboldened to engage in racist and quite frankly fascist remarks,” she said in a statement to Axios.

“Representative Gill’s attempt to clout chase by threatening to deport a legal US citizen because you disagree with them is directly out of Donald Trump’s fascist playbook.”

She added, “I hope Representative Gill learns a thing or two about the value immigrants bring to this country and stop threatening Americans that disagree with him.”

The Post reached out to Omar’s office but didn’t hear back immediately.
