Liam Payne partied with two prostitutes in hotel room hours before balcony plunge: officials
One Direction singer Liam Payne partied with two prostitutes in his Buenos Aires hotel room just hours before he plummeted to his death from a third-floor balcony — and not long after the troubled star‘s girlfriend returned to the US, according to officials.
The 25-year-olds, who Payne met through an “escort” website, told local law enforcement that they “drank alcohol” with the musician at the CasaSur hotel before getting into an argument about payment and leaving roughly an hour before his fatal plunge, La Nación news reported.
“They left prior to 4 p.m. from Payne’s room [and] left the actual hotel around that time because there was a problem, as Payne did not want to pay them,” an unnamed official, who is involved in the investigation, told the outlet.
The 31-year-old star — who had been traveling in Argentina with his New Jersey-born girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, in the days leading up to his rendezvous with the sex workers — seemed “normal” before they left, the women told law enforcement.
The two prostitutes, who were not named in the report, were helpful to investigators and even handed over their phones, according to the outlet. The women had been mentioned in an autopsy report released Thursday, but were not identified at the time as prostitutes.
“The witnesses were cooperative. Not only with their declarations, but they also gave us access to their cell phones,” a source told the outlet.
Payne was seen having a “very tense” argument with a mystery woman — likely one of the escorts — in the lobby of the hotel at around 2 p.m, American tourist Michael Fleishmann told the Buenos Aires Herald Thursday.
“I’ll give you $20,000 just because I can. I have $55 million and I like to help people,” the “Strip That Down” singer supposedly kept saying.
At the time, singer “seemed very upset, agitated, a little wild, walking around and pacing” and “seemed very energized,” Fleishmann said.
Payne plummeted to his death from the balcony of his trashed hotel room — which was littered with champagne glasses and drug paraphernalia — at around 5 p.m. Wednesday, authorities said.
Officials initially said he “had jumped from the balcony of his room” but an autopsy noted he had fallen and may have been unconscious or semi-unconscious.
Investigators are still determining whether Payne’s fall was accidental or intentional, the Buenos Aires Security Ministry communications director, Pablo Policicchio, told Page Six Thursday.
The musician, who has gone to drug rehab in the past, was “going through some kind of [issue] due to substance abuse,” officials said.
Law enforcement questioned “three hotel workers and two women who, in the hours prior, had been with the musician in his room, but had already left the hotel when the incident occurred,” according to police.
