Kamala Harris snipes at Trump and Elon Musk in NAACP Image Awards speech: ‘Shadows gathering over our democracy’

She lost the election, but she’ll always have the NAACP Chairman’s Award.

Former Vice President Kamala Harris reemerged in the public limelight for her first major speech since departing the White House Saturday night and took not-so-subtle shots at both President Trump and tech mogul Elon Musk.

During an acceptance speech at the 56th annual NAACP Image Awards, Harris painted a bleak picture of the state of the country and urged attendees not to lose hope as her own party struggles over its direction amid Trump’s return.

“While we have no illusions about what we are up against in this chapter in our American story, this chapter will be written not simply by whoever occupies the Oval Office nor by the wealthiest among us,” Harris, 60, dressed in an all-black pantsuit, said during her acceptance speech.

“The American story will be written by you. Written by us. By we the people.”

Harris was the first Democratic presidential candidate to lose the popular since John Kerry in 20 years ago. She trailed trump Trump, 78, by some 2.3 million votes — and lost every swing state.

She’s largely laid low in the public eye since Trump officially roared back into the White House last month.

Unlike during the first Trump administration, Democrats are finding themselves demoralized, divided, low on energy as they attempt to counter the president’s blitz of executive orders, appointments and Oval Office directives.

Harris implored attendees at the NAACP Image Awards and her supporters not to give up.

“Some see the flames on our horizons, the rising waters in our cities, the shadows gathering over our democracy and ask, ‘What do we do now?’” Harris observed.

“But we know exactly what to do, because we have done it before. And we will do it again. We use our power. We organize. We mobilize. We educate. We advocate. Our power has never come from having an easy path.”

Her address came hours after Trump electrified the MAGA faithful just outside Washington, DC, at the Conservative Political Action Conference where he gloated over his victory against Harris.

“I haven’t said that name in a while, Kamala,” Trump mused at CPAC during a riff about her task of tackling the root causes of the border crisis. “I bet nobody knows her last name.”

Despite clear references to them, Harris did not name Trump or Musk directly during her speech at the NAACP’s 56th annual Image Awards, which took place in the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in the Los Angeles area.

“This organization came into being at a moment when our country struggled with greed, bitterness and hatred,” she told attendees. “Those who carried its legacy forward had no illusions about the forces they were up against.”

Democratic leadership in Congress has attempted to avoid responding to every little move that Trump takes and train their focus on the middle class.

But that has left many progressive activists feeling that the party’s top brass isn’t being forceful enough and complaining about a vacuum of leadership.

After losing the election, Harris vowed that she wouldn’t “go quietly into the night.” However, she has kept a very low profile, even as her party casts about for new leadership.

Last week, it was revealed that she joined former President Joe Biden in signing up with the Creative Artists Agency, a top talent agency in Hollywood.
