Florida murderer lunges at father of teen he killed over Yeezy shoes in courtroom outburst before sentencing
A Florida murderer lept out of his courtroom chair towards his victim’s family when a heartbroken father called his teen daughter’s killer an “animal” for fatally shooting her over a pair of Yeezys.
The family of 18-year-old Andrea Camps Lacayo had the chance to speak face-to-face to Adrian Cosby, who is accused of murdering the high school senior in 2020, during Cosby’s sentencing on Friday.
“You are the epitome of evil and darkness that this world represents,” Camps Lacayo’s father Anthony Camps told Cosby in a victim impact statement according to NBC Miami. “There is no forgiveness on this earth for animals like you.”
“There’s only one place where animals like you belong and that’s in prison for the rest of your life,” added Camps, who was surrounded by family and his daughter’s high school sweetheart.
Camps’ statement directed at his daughter’s killer set the 23-year-old off on a rampage, just feet from the podium.
“What the f–k you talking about bitch,” Cosby yelled, as he stood up and attempted to lunge toward the family, the Miami Herald reported.
Court officers subdued Cosby and rushed him out of the courtroom as he hurled out several more profanities toward Camps Lacayo’s loved ones, who needed to be held back from Cosby.
Camps Locayo was set to graduate from Terra Environmental Research Institute before attending Florida International University to study nursing when she was killed.
She and her boyfriend, Sergio Berben, were trying to sell some personal belongings to make money during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The couple had been trying to sell three pairs of Adidas Yeezy’s worth $935 when they set up a meeting with 19-year-old George Walton on April 7, 2020.
The couple met with Walton outside an abandoned house in Homestead near Florida’s Turnpike.
Walton asked to try on a pair of shoes designed and launched by rapper Kanye West but Berben argued to see payment, according to NBC Miami.
Cosby then approached Berben’s driver’s side door and opened fire, striking Camps Locayo and Berben.
Berben was grazed in the arm while Camps Locayo was shot at least once in the torso.
Berben drove off but quickly pulled over on the side of the road when he realized his girlfriend was dying, the outlet reported.
The teen was fading in and out of consciousness when first responders arrived.
Miami-Dade Police Sgt. Jenna Parmenter testified in Cosby’s trial recalling Camps Locayo asking “if she was going to be OK.”
“She faded back out and closed her eyes,” Parmenter said.
Camps Locayo, the captain of her high school dance team, died at a hospital during surgery.
“He shot and killed my girlfriend and tried to kill me as well,” Berben told jurors of Cosby.
Cosby was found guilty of first-degree murder, first-degree attempted murder and attempted robbery with a deadly weapon.
After a 20-minute break following the outburst, Cosby was brought back into the courtroom, without Camps family.
Cosby was handed two life sentences by Miami-Dade Circuit Court Judge Miguel M. De la O.
He was also given a concurrent 25-year sentence for the attempted robbery conviction.
Walton was convicted of first-degree murder, first-degree attempted murder and attempted robbery with a firearm earlier this year.
He was also sentenced to life in prison.
