Cop shot during hours-long standoff with barricaded maniac in Manhattan: NYPD

An NYPD officer was shot in the shoulder by a barricaded suspect while attempting to serve a search warrant at a Manhattan housing complex Tuesday, cops said.

Emergency Services Unit officers around 5:10 a.m. descended on the Madison Street building within the Vladeck Houses development, where the armed man had barricaded himself inside an apartment, authorities and sources said.

The maniac opened fire through his apartment door, letting off between three and five rounds at first, and no one was hit, police said.

Police continued for hours attempting to negotiate with the barricaded man, who opened fire again around 8:25 a.m. — this time striking an officer in the shoulder, cops said.

The injured cop was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

Officers appeared to have returned fire, wounding the gunman, sources said. His condition was not immediately known.

Police confirmed shortly after 9 a.m. that the suspect was finally taken into custody.
