9-year-old girl struck by window glass that plunged from 8-story NYC building as high winds battered area
A 9-year-old girl and a male relative were struck by falling window glass that was blown out of an eight-story apartment building in Queens Monday evening as strong winds battered the Big Apple.
The child and the man were both hospitalized when the glass shattered on top of them on the sidewalk below the towering building, cops said.
The scary scene unfolded around 6:10 p.m. when the glass panel became dislodged from an apartment balcony area and fell from several floors up onto Beech Avenue below, police said.
The two victims didn’t suffer any lacerations or serious injuries, but were taken to North Shore Hospital for evaluation, according to the NYPD.
The young girl and the 45-year-old man she was with were related, law enforcement sources said.
Photos of the scene showed glass shattered across the sidewalk as emergency responders with the city’s buildings department surveyed the damage.
Winds in the city were blowing around 15 mph Monday night into Tuesday while gusts were as strong as 30 mph, according to forecasters.
