‘Wonderful’ grandad, 62, who died after petrol station car crash pictured

The family of a man killed in a petrol station crash in Devon has paid tribute to him, describing him as a ‘loving character.’

Jonathan Elliott, 62, died after two drivers crashed into him at the Sainsbury’s petrol station in Torquay on Friday, November 1.

The grandad, who is from Torquay, was rushed to the hospital with serious head injuries.

He passed away at Derriford Hospital on November 7.

The fatal crash happened at the filling station on The Willows when the driver of a black Hyundai Getz and the driver of a silver Honda Jazz hit a pedestrian- who has now been named as Mr Elliott.

His devastated family paid tribute to ‘a wonderful son, brother, husband, dad and grandad.’

They said in a statement: ‘Jon Elliott, 62 years old, was loved dearly by his family and local community. He was struck by a vehicle on November 1st at Sainsburys in Torquay and sadly died on the 7 November at Derriford Hospital.

‘At this time, the family ask for privacy whilst they come to terms with the loss of such a large loving character, they pay tribute to such a wonderful son, brother, husband, dad and grandad.’

The smash reportedly happened when the driver of a black car crashed into the petrol station building, also injuring a customer inside who was able to recover at home.

Devon and Cornwall Police asked those it may not have already spoken to to get in touch wit the force.

The force thanked the people who ‘helped with first aid and remained to talk with officers.’
