Woman stays at ‘worst rated hotel’ and issues brutal verdict

A woman who braved a stay at what’s been dubbed Manchester’s “worst hotel” has reported back with some less-than-stellar findings.

The infamous Sachas Hotel in Manchester, spotlighted by TikTok sensation @shona.karolina, offers rooms from the bargain price of £40 – but customer reviews suggest it’s a big gamble.

Travel guru Shona, known for her visits to budget and poorly rated hotels to test if their reputations hold true, found Sachas to be a letdown, describing the “absolutely massive” establishment as failing to live up to expectations.

The adventure began with an alarming lift ride to their floor, where Shona claimed “the lift dropped suddenly”. And things didn’t get better when she opened the door to her room.

As Shona walked through corridors that looked in need of some TLC, she confessed: “I’m scared. I don’t like it.”

And a closer examination of her room concerned her – as she complained there weren’t any main lighting fixtures. She did have bedside lamps to illuminate the space, but it still looked rather dark.

The room, which featured a bed obstructed by a partition wall, also lacked in windows. The friends flicked a seemingly useless light switch and inspected ‘holes’ in the ceiling.

They also complained the room was sauna-like and displayed random stains and scuff masks in the bathroom. But on the upside, the bath and shower did look completely new.

The disappointing experience turned out to be a cautionary tale for potential guests, with one relieved user commenting: “I was gonna pick this place when I was in Manchester. I’m glad I didn’t now.”

The stay seemed to border on the eerie, sparking another user to ask: “Did you stay the night? It really looks horrible and spooky.”

The Britannia Sachas Hotel stands at a disheartening 2/5 rating on TripAdvisor. With more than 2,900 reviews, an overwhelming number have deemed it awful. There’s 1,600 one-star ratings and only 112 calling it “excellent”.

Despite some criticism, the hotel has its share of supporters. Just last month, one reviewer endorsed the venue as “lovely” and complimented its high “cleaning standards” the “friendly” nature of the staff, and the “lovely” breakfast on offer.

Another guest described the establishment as a “cheap and cheerful” option, stating: “For what you pay you can’t complain at all”. The Britannia Sachas Hotel has been approached for a response.
