Village named most desirable place to live where average house price is £1.4m

A charming village nestled just outside of London where the average house price is a whopping £1.4m has been named as one of the most desirable places to live in the UK.

Maintaining its charm over the years, idyllic Cobham is located just 17 miles south-west of London offering residents a mixture of a tranquil village-like atmosphere whilst not being too far away from the big smoke.

The village, which sits on the River Mole, has a number of independent shops on the high street as well as pubs and greens.

Known for its affluent community, good schools, and low crime rates it is no wonder that the village came in second place on the Telegraph’s list of Britain’s 50 most desirable places to live in.

Estate agent Savills was commissioned by The Telegraph to compile a list of Britain’s 50 most affluent towns. It scored them across a range of different factors including the proportion of residents holding managerial jobs, their level of qualifications, the state of their health and the average house price.

All these reasons have driven up house prices in the sought after commuter town where average house price is a whopping £1.4m and experts pointed to the river that runs through the town and a lively café society for making it a sought-after community within the commuter belt.

“I have clients moving from Singapore who’ve done just that – it just is a lovely place to live,” said Richard Winter, who runs his own firm.

The village is also home to an array of famous faces including Shrek star Antonio Bandera and Frank Lampard who might just bump into while browsing the beautiful selection of independent shops.

While Dark Knight actor Aaron Eckhart once lived in Cobham and attended the American Community School in the town, now known as ACS International Schools. Stanley Tucci also once lived in Cobham and also sent his children to the same school as Eckhart went to.

Cobham has several stunning sights, including Painshill Park and Church Stile House dating from the early 17th century.

Along with Cobham another 12 Surrey towns made the cut as most desireable places to live in the UK. They were: Esher, Virginia Water, Ashtead, Farnham, Weybridge, Reigate, Haslemere, Guildford, Godalming, Oxted, Epsom and Leatherhead.

Renowed for its stunning independent shops, cozy cafés, and traditionally charming British pubs Harpenden in Hertfordshire took the top spot.

Although property prices here may not be as high the average house price will still set you back an eye watering £913,000.

Sat between Luton and St Albans and 25 miles north of London has excellent schools, speedy rail links into London and semi-rural setting making it the perfect location for wealthy commuters.
