New details about Chris Kaba’s life have been made public after an armed police officer was found not guilty of his murder.

Metropolitan Police officer Martyn Blake was cleared of murder on Monday after the jury deliberated for just three hours.

Home Secretary Yvette Cooper in response has unveiled ‘a presumption of anonymity for firearms officers subject to criminal trial’, saying it’s ‘vital’ those officers and their families are not put in danger by legal proceedings.

This anonymity would stay in place until the officer was convicted.

After the not guilty verdict was handed down, judge Mr Justice Goss lifted reporting restrictions which blocked publication of several details about Kaba’s life to prevent the jury being unduly influenced.

This revealed that Kaba was accused of shooting a gang rival in the legs six days before his death in September 2022, and if he had not died he would have stood trial for attempted murder.

But who was Chris Kaba and what is known about his past – including his role as a ‘core member’ of one of London’s most dangerous gangs?

The day after Blake’s not guilty verdict was handed down, the judge lifted reporting restrictions which prevented details of Kaba’s past criminal history from being made public.
