Thousands across UK could get £737 DWP payments for these conditions

Thousands of people across the UK with certain conditions may qualify for financial support. However what you get and how much is all based on individual circumstances.

A successful claim for Personal Independence Payment (PIP) or Adult Disability Payment (ADP) currently provides between £28.70 and £184.30 per week from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). Since payments are made every four weeks, this amounts to between £114.80 and £737.20 per pay period.

DWP guidance states: “These claimants would not usually be expected to have a face-to-face assessment at review.”

Six conditions with PIP award of five years or longer

It’s essential to understand that individuals with various health conditions may receive PIP for up to five years or more. The duration of the award depends on how the condition impacts the claimant.

The following conditions had the highest percentage of five-year or longer awards granted to claimants as of the end of October 2024.

Who might be eligible for PIP or ADP?

To be eligible for PIP or ADP, you must have a health condition or disability where you:

You usually need to have lived in the UK for at least two of the last three years and be in the country when you apply. As well as this, you may be able to get PIP or ADP if you need help with:

• leaving your home
• washing
• dressing and undressing
• talking, listening, reading and understanding
• managing your medicines or treatments
• eating
• drinking
• preparing food

• bathing

• using the toilet

• managing incontinence

• making decisions about money
• mixing with other people
• working out a route and following it
• physically moving around

DWP or Social Security Scotland will assess how difficult you find daily living and mobility tasks. For each task they will look at:

• whether you need help to do it, from a person or using extra equipment
• whether you can do it safely
• how long it takes you
• how often your condition affects this activity

How are PIP and ADP paid?

PIP and ADP are typically paid every four weeks at the same rate, except for individuals with a terminal illness, who receive payments weekly. The funds are deposited directly into your bank, building society, or credit union account.

You will need an assessment to work out the level of financial help you will receive and your rate will be regularly reviewed to make sure you are getting the right support. Payments are made every four weeks.

PIP is made up of two components and you may get both but it all depends on how your condition affects you:

You will be paid the following amounts per week depending on your circumstances:

Daily living

• Standard rate: £72.65

• Enhanced rate: £108.55

Mobility

• Standard rate: £28.70

• Enhanced rate: £75.75

How you are assessed

You will be assessed by an independent healthcare professional to help the DWP determine the level of financial support, if any, you need, for PIP, reports the Daily Record.

Face-to-face consultations for health-related benefits are available alongside video calls, telephone, and paper-based assessments. The health professional and DWP decide which assessment type is most appropriate for each claimant. Learn more about DWP PIP assessments here.
