The pretty market town that’s one of cheapest in Cornwall – with homes at £200k

A beautiful town in Cornwall has been named among the most county’s most affordable places to live, with homes selling for just over £200,000, according to recent analysis.

Online Marketing Surgery and Cardinal Steels used Office for National Statistics (ONS) house price data to neighbourhoods across Britain from 2023 to 2024 based on median average house prices.

Among Cornwall‘s cheapest was Launceston, a picturesque market town between Dartmoor and Bodmin Moor, which was found to have an overall average price of £226,637 over the last year. However, the list didn’t include data on the number of properties sold or the minimum and maximum prices.

According to Rightmove, properties there had an overall average price of £226,637 over the last year.

The majority of sales during the last year were detached properties, which were snapped up for £349,048 on average. Terraced properties sold for £182,333, on average with semi-detached properties going for £250,039.

Sold prices in Launceston over the last year were 2% down on the previous year overall, according to the site.

Launceston had been Cornwall’s ancient capital, and retains impressive relics of its history to this day. This includes a Norman castle with grounds to explore.

The town also has a stunning steam railway to ride on, with one TripAdvisor from this summer saying the service, which runs from Launceston to New Mills, takes you through “beautiful Cornish countryside” and was “superb”.

There’s also a child-friendly museum – which is free – as well as plenty of opportunities to take in famous Cornwall scenery, such as walks on the Tamar Valley where you can catch fish for dinner, according to Visit Launceston.

Cornwall also recently topped a list of the most popular staycation spots for next year, compiled by holiday provider Parkdean Resorts, which scored various popular travel hubs based on their digital engagement metrics.

The county, known for its stunning scenery and beaches, eclipsed the competition with a 76.3 score among the top trending UK holiday spots, boasting close to a million monthly searches for holiday-themed content, GB News reports.

The firm put the together the ranking by looking at holiday-related searches on Google as well as TikTok engagement and Instagram hashtags to rank the most sought-after spots.

Cornwall’s diverse range of attractions was apparently the driver behind its traction online, famous for its gorgeous coastal walks and natural beauty.
