The most expensive and cheapest UK cities to eat out this Christmas – full list

GIGAcalculator found that Manchester was the most expensive city for diners who did not want to have their main Christmas meal at home, costing £159 each. This is more than double the median cost in the cheapest city, Kingston upon Hull.

This was named the cheapest UK city for eating out on the big day, with a median cost of £64.99 per head. 

Southend-on-Sea was crowned the most affordable place for locals to dine out on Christmas day, with residents splashing out just 11.23 per cent of their weekly earnings for their festive blow out. 

GIGAcalculator’s research found one in six households planned to dine out on Christmas day.

Many Brits are expected to fork out almost half of their average monthly food budget of £182 on Christmas Day dinner with meals costing £89.95 per person on average according to research conducted by GIGAcalculator.

Although Southend-on-Sea was the sixth most expensive place for Christmas day eats, it was crowned the most affordable place for locals to dine out as those living in Southend-on-Sea will spend the lowest percentage of their weekly earnings at £75 – almost £15 less than the UK’s average. 

With average gross weekly earnings of £565 within the city, Mancunians will need to fork out 28.14 oer cent of their weekly earnings to eat out for Christmas dinner. 

London’s median cost is £109 for a Christmas meal, although Claridges in Mayfair costs £525 a head – a staggering 583 per centhigher than the UK average – and even £260 per child.

One of the more expensive restaurants in Manchester is at The Lowry Hotel where Christmas Day lunch will set you back £170 per adult.  

The Three Crowns in Kingston upon Hull is one of the cheapest options within the port city, costing £58.99 for their three-course menu.

Newport placed second on the list of cheap Christmas day dining, with a median total of £66.49 per person. 

Cardiff landed in third place, with a median cost of £67.99 for their Christmas day options, with the locations offering this special menu averaging 4.1 out of 5 ratings.
