The beautiful little UK city just named Britain’s best place to live

A city with quaint buildings and picturesque scenery has just been named Britain’s best place to live.

Research by house buying experts housebuyers4u found that York is the most desirable place to live in the UK. They used data from the Home Office and Tripadvisor to create a score out of 100 based on culture, green spaces, housing and crime. 

The Yorkshire city took the crown with a culture score of 78, including a 4.75 out of 5 rating for fun and games, such as family-friendly miniature golf and the prestigious York Racecourse.

There are 43 nature and park landscapes, including Rowntree Park and Museum Gardens, resulting in a green score of 100. York got a final score of 71, almost 40 percent above the national average.

Nottingham came in second, with a score of 69, 37 percent above the national average. The East Midlands city got 80 for utilities, with the average price of electricity being three percent below the national average.

It got a housing score of 64 with an average house price per square meter of £2,553.53, 23.4 percent below the national average of £3,337.37.

In third place was Blackpool. The Lancashire city has 27 concerts and show attractions for locals to enjoy, resulting in a culture score of 77.

Violent crime is also decreasing at a rate of 0.04 in the local authority, compared to, for example, a 0.06 increase in Swansea. These factors, among others, culminate in a final index score of 69, which is 35 percent above the national average.

Edinburgh came in fourth with a score of 68, 33.4 percent above the national average. The average gas price per kWh is 0.8 percent less than the national average, at 6.18p per kWh, resulting in a score of 69 for utilities.

Additionally, the Scottish city is home to 50 nature and park attractions, including Arthur’s Seat and Calton Hill, which is 85 percent above the national average of 27.

Newcastle upon Tyne is the fifth-best place to live in 2024, with a score of 66, 29.8 percent above the national average. It got a housing score of 79, with the average price of housing per square meter costing 29.3 percent above the national average.
