Teenager killed in motorbike crash and another fighting for life in hospital

The incident happened in Woodchurch, at the junction of Hoole Road and Grass Wood Road

A teenager has been killed and another is fighting for his life after falling off from a motorbike.

The incident happened in Woodchurch, at the junction of Hoole Road and Grass Wood Road, on Saturday, just before 6.30pm.

Police rushed to the scene after reports that two men had plummeted from a motorbike.

When officers finally arrived at the scene, there was nothing they could do to save one of the victims, 17-year-old boy, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The second teenager, aged 18, was taken to hospital. The actual bike was nowhere to be found and officers believe that other teenagers have hidden it.

It is not believed that another vehicle was involved in the crash.

Neighbours were deeply troubled by what happened, with one man fighting back tears as he told the Liverpool Echo: ‘I was walking round the corner and I heard a bang.

‘I thought it was a car crash at first. Then I saw them on the ground and I ran over to help.’

He added: ‘I’ve never seen anything like it. I can’t unsee what I have seen.’

His friend added: ‘It’s sad, really sad. They were so young, just kids really. They didn’t deserve that.’

A road closure remains in place at the scene and motorists are advised to avoid the area at this time.

Merseyside Police are appealing for any witnesses and CCTV, which may assist their investigation.

Inspector Ian Cowell said: ‘This is a tragic incident that has resulted in a teenager losing his life and our thoughts are with his family.

‘Another young man has also sustained significant injuries and he is currently in a critical condition in hospital.

‘A road closure remains in place at the scene and increased patrols are in the area to carry out initial inquiries and establish exactly what happened.

‘We believe there were other males who were with them at the time of the collision and we are trying to locate them to see if they have any information.

‘When officers arrived, the vehicle involved in the collision, which we believe was a motorbike, had been removed and part of our inquiries will be trying to locate this vehicle.’
