Taylor Swift cake pulled from competition after hands shaken off on the way

A life-sized Taylor Swift cake was pulled from an international competition after losing its hands on the way there.

Elza Baldzhiyska was hoping to win the Cake International decorating contestwith a baked good depicting the pop star in a white sequined outfit from her Eras Tour.

But the award-winning cake artist’s dreams fell apart when the hands came off while travelling by van to the NEC in Birmingham on Thursday.

Pictures show the 5ft 9in sculpture bent sideways at its knees and missing both hands.

Baldzhiyska tried to craft new hands from what appeared to be icing, but she and the show organisers decided to pull it from consideration.

It would otherwise have gone up against a life-sized sculpture of Queen Elizabeth I in a gold dress, created by sugar artist Emma Jayne Cake Design.

Among the thousands of other entries is a Mrs Macabre’s Toy Emporium showpiece from Sugar Screams, a seven-foot-tall birthday cake to celebrate 30 years of Cake International.

It also features a large dragon slayer cake from film industry expert sculptor Gary Pollard.

The three-day event, running until Sunday, also features live demonstrations and workshops alongside the competition.

Ms Baldzhiyska’s mishap is reminiscent of other cake disasters that saw hours of baker’s care and attention spiral into chaos.

Earlier this month, CCTV footage emerged of numerous trays of cake crash to the floor when Isabel Maidens got her Crocs stuck under the wheel of a trolley.

She buried her head in her hand after trying to catch the cakes she had spent all day making at her bakery, Isabakes, based in Rossendale Lancashire.

In another nightmare, newlyweds Chloe and Aaron Bailey, from Hampshire, watched as their three-tier macaron covered wedding cake slipped from the table as they cut it.

All they could so was gasp as they made a futile effort to save the cake, which cost £450, plus £100 for delivery.
