Prince Harry now realises why King can’t see him for ‘longer than 45 minutes’

A royal commentator has claimed the penny has “finally dropped” for Prince Harry about why his meetings with his father are rarely longer than 45 minutes.

Speaking on the Daily Mail’s Palace Confidential, Charlotte Griffiths claimed that the Duke of Sussex has begun to realise that the reason why his meetings with Charles are so short is because the monarch can’t trust him.

The comments come as the row over Harry’s security continues towards the end of his fourth year outside the royal fold with the prince losing entitlement police security after his exit in 2020.

This has led to failed attempts by Prince Harry to have the security detail reinstated through the courts and reportedly asking his father to help him.

Discussing the latest developments, Charlotte supposed that after years of fighting, Harry was realising that maybe it was time for a different approach to improve the chances of a reconciliation with his father.

Charlotte said: “He seemed to think his father could click his fingers and make it all go away and just give him security, he didn’t realise how much nuance there was.

“I get the impression that the penny might have finally dropped because we’re hearing more and more mood music from the Sussexes that Harry wants to communicate with his father and is realising why, when he sees his father, the meetings are so short if they happen at all.

“It’s because Charles can’t speak to him, just can’t trust him, so the sooner this all gets ironed out the sooner they can repair their relationship.”

Charlotte added that she did think that Charles wanted to not only make up with Harry but also see his grandchildren Archie Harrison and Lillibet Diana.

As the ongoing relationship between Harry and other senior members of the Royal Family continues to stall, there is renewed speculation over whether any progress has been made at all.

Discussing the matter on the Royal Beat, Newsweek’s Jack Royston suggested that the relationship was at “disintegration point” despite a raft of visits by Harry to the UK, including to visit Charles when he was diagnosed with cancer.

Jack explained: “When [Harry] found out that his father was ill, had cancer, he flew straight to Britain. He got half an hour, or 45 minutes, with his dad before Charles went off to Sandringham.

“Then he came in May and he was told he couldn’t see his father. He released a public statement, through a spokesperson, saying Charles had other priorities.”

Following two more trips to the UK by Harry without being able to his father, Jack remarked: “That is probably, I think, the biggest warning sign that [their relationship] could actually be at full disintegration point now.”

Although Harry’s relations with King Charles are uncertain, some have questioned whether progress could be being made in his relationship with his brother Prince William after the heir to the throne referred to Harry by his first name for the first time in six years.

In an interview that formed part of an ITV documentary, Prince William recalled a visit to a homeless shelter he made with Harry and their mother Princess Diana reported the Scottish Daily Express.

He remembered: “My mother took me to the Passage, she took Harry and I both there… I’d never been to anything like that before and I was a bit anxious as to what to expect.

“My mother went about her usual part of making everyone feel relaxed and having a joke with everyone. I remember having some good conversation, playing chess and chatting. You meet people, like I did then, who put a different perspective in your head.
