People rushed to hospital after car ploughs into busy street in central London
Three people were taken to hospital after a car mounted the pavement outside of a central London restaurant.
A passerby, believed to have been injured in the chaos, was taken to hospital along with the car’s driver and a passenger.
A black car mounted the pavement in Piccadilly Circus, near the Angus Steakhouse restaurant, just before 7pm this evening.
Photos revealed a large police presence and a mangled front of the car, with shattered glass nearby.
The Metropolitan Police said in a statement: ‘Police were called at approximately 18:50hrs on Tuesday, November 12, to reports of a collision involving a car in Coventry Street, junction with Haymarket, SW1.
‘Witnesses reported a car mounted the pavement before colliding with a building. Two people – a pedestrian and a passenger who was in the car – were taken to hospital for treatment.’
The driver was not seriously injured, but was taken to hospital as well, police said.
Tourists in the area appeared to be taking photos of the scene, which had a heavy police presence.
Those online wasted no time in joking about the situation.
