Parents investigate ‘saboteur’ planting boobytraps making school runs miserable

A group of parents in a Suffolk village are hunting for a ‘saboteur’ they believe to be behind nails in their car tyres and ‘boobytraps’.

Parents of children in Creeting St Mary, Suffolk, said they’ve found broken glass, dog poo, screws and dead mice near where they drop off their children at school.

Police are now investigating who could be behind the sabotage of the small village’s school runs.

Parent Stephanie Wilson said it wasn’t a coincidence, saying the screws are stood up, embedded in the grass and on the road.

The council has advised parents to park further away from the school when dropping off their children.

But one parent, 33-year-old Angharad, got four flat tyres and began warning parents months ago.

After messaging other parents in a WhatsApp group, they discovered a strip of upright screws outside of a home in the village.

But one parent told MailOnline the problem has persisted for five years: ‘It’s not accidental – this is a deliberate attempt to puncture tyres and they don’t care if a child or a dog gets injured in the process.’

A similar incident happened in Somerset in 2018, when parents found nails are glued upright in the road to stop school parents from parking in a quiet cul-de-sac.

Mums and dads who left their cars in Rectory Close, Somerset, say they are being deliberately targeted by vandals who are annoyed they are losing their spaces.

Another accident happened earlier this year, when a mountain biker was injured after he hit a ‘disturbing’ booby trap hidden on a popular bike trail.

Tich Kent’s ride near Philpstoun Bing about 20 miles north-west of Edinburgh took a nasty turn when he hit a sharp object.

It was revealed to be a medieval-looking metal slate with 11 four-inch nails welded into it and placed at the landing of a steep downhill section.

The keen rider went flying from his bike after both of his tyres were hit, leaving him with a puncture wound despite layers of clothing.

He said he believed the device was hidden as ‘trail sabotage’ and may have been aimed at riders of motocross bikes.

The 50-year-old said: ‘This is next-level dangerous sabotage’.

A second, similar booby trap was discovered nearby, leading to fears a rider could be seriously injured if they hit them, Mail Online reported.
