Paedophile broke into family home and sexually assaulted child in their bedroom

A man broke into a home and sexually assaulted a child while the family were downstairs.

Saqib Khan, from Huddersfield, was sentenced to ten years in prison at Leeds Crown Court yesterday following the attack on April 20.

The 40-year-old had snuck into the family’s property sometime during the evening and gone into bedroom of the child, who was under ten, the court heard.

The child’s family heard a disturbance but were unable to gain entry to the room.

The youngster’s father rang 999, then spotted two police passing by outside and asked for their help.

They forced entry into the room and restrained and arrested Khan.

He was charged with sexually assaulting a child under 10 and found guilty following a trial in October.

Khan will have to sign on the Sex Offenders register for life following his release from prison and has also been made subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

Thursday November 21st, 2024 A sex offender who broke into a Huddersfield home and sexually assaulted a child has been jailed. Saqib Khan (40) of Hanson Lane in Huddersfield was sentenced to ten years in prison at Leeds Crown Court today (Thursday November 21st ) for sexually assaulting a child aged under 10 in an incident on April 20th. Saqib Khan The 40-year-old had been found guilty of sexual assault at a trial in October. Leeds Crown Court heard that Khan had made his way into the family home during the evening of April 20th , entered the child?s bedroom and committed a sexual assault. The victim?s relatives heard a disturbance but were unable to gain entry to the room. Instead the child?s father rang 999, went outside and then summoned help from two police officers who were passing the address. They forced entry into the room and restrained and arrested Khan. He was swiftly charged with a sexual assault offence following the incident. The 40-year-old will have to sign on the Sex Offenders register for life following his release from prison and was made subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order. This order will make him subject to immediate arrest and prosecution if he breaches any of the terms set, on his release from prison. Detective Inspector Tal Laher of Kirklees District Police Safeguarding Unit , said: ?This has been a shocking offence in which Saqib Khan put his victim and parents through what would be any family?s worst nightmare. ?There is no doubt he is a highly dangerous sexual offender, and his offending could have been even worse had he not been restrained by two police constables who saw the child?s father on the street and intervened. ?Their swift action in detaining the male while also providing care and support to a distraught family should be commended.? He added: ?We hope seeing Khan jailed today will bring some measure of comfort to his victim and family and I want to praise them for their courage in supporting the prosecution. ?Sexual offences are always investigated by specially trained detectives and with the needs of victims at the heart of each and every investigation.?

The order means that if he breaches any of the terms set on his release from prison he will be arrested immediately and face prosecution.

Detective Inspector Tal Laher of Kirklees District Police Safeguarding Unit , said:  ‘This has been a shocking offence in which Saqib Khan put his victim and parents through what would be any family’s worst nightmare.

‘There is no doubt he is a highly dangerous sexual offender, and his offending could have been even worse had he not been restrained by two police constables who saw the child’s father on the street and intervened.

‘Their swift action in detaining the male while also providing care and support to a distraught family should be commended.’

He added: ‘We hope seeing Khan jailed today will bring some measure of comfort to his victim and family and I want to praise them for their courage in supporting the prosecution.
