Moment hero pensioner, 84, fights robber with pair of jeans
The shocking moment a pensioner fended off a mugger while holding a pair of jeans in a laundrette was captured on CCTV.
Ron Croker, 84, was drying his jeans at the laundrette in Maltby, South Yorkshire, when he heard a robber burst in.
The masked man reportedly said, “Give me your f***** money now” as the thug tried to mug the pensioner.
But Mr Croker stood his ground in a brave act of defiance, refusing to empty his pockets or hand over his wallet.
Instead, he approached the hooded man and forced him out of the building.
Impressively, Mr Croker oversaw the whole ordeal while holding onto his pair of jeans.
When the man returned for a second attempt, the 84-year-old batted him away once again, yelling “get off!” as the robber tried to grab hold of him.
He told the BBC: “I’ve worked all my life for my money. He’s not having it.”
Mr Croker also shared how he had “no fear” as he fended off the robber with just one hand as he held his jeans with the other.
He told the Daily Mail: “I had a pair of jeans and shirt in my hand and that’s when he started flying through the door at me.
“I didn’t have any fear when he was coming screaming at me. I can scream loud and I just started yelling back at him.”
A fundraiser has since been set up to support Mr Croker after his brave show of force.
Carl Goodfellow, who started the page, said: “Let’s spread some joy into this man’s life and show him he is not alone.”
A 42-year-old man has been charged with attempted robbery in connection with the incident that happened on January 7, South Yorkshire Police have said and has been remanded in custody and will remain so until his court hearing on February 7.
