Millions take to the roads to make final festive journeys ahead of Christmas
After a week of travel chaos in the run-up to Christmas its looking like today might be a smoother ride as commuters prepare to make their final journeys before the big day.
Britain’s motorways are mostly clear this morning, after accidents such as vehicle collisions and a van bursting into flames caused severe congestion on parts of the M1, M5 and M6 yesterday.
National Highways reports minor incidents on the M4 westbound and the M5 southbound this morning, but they are expected to clear before rush hour.
Overnight snow on the M62 caused disruption over the weekend, and while more is expected throughout December it is not expected to cause any serious traffic problems today.
All major train routes are running on schedule so far, with only minor delays at West Kirkby and Wigan reported so far. Both are expected to clear shortly without issue.
