Man arrested after teenager raped in town centre on Christmas Day

A man has been arrested after a teenager was raped in Leamington town centre on Christmas Day.

Members of the public helped the 18-year-old woman after she was attacked in the Warwickshire town between 1am and 3.30am on December 25.

A 20-year-old man from Bristol has been arrested.

Police are now appealing for anyone who helped the woman to come forward to assist their investigation.

She is described as a white woman who was wearing a white coat at the time.

Officers are also looking for dashcam footage or CCTV showing the area around Parade, Clarendon Avenue, Beauchamp Road, Beauchamp Avenue, or Kenilworth Road between midnight and 4am.

Detective Sergeant Nicola Norris said: ‘The community has been left appalled and worried by this incident and I hope this update goes some way to reassuring everyone that this is an absolute priority for us.

‘We will not have people feeling unsafe in our town, and residents will have hopefully noticed a heavier police presence in the town centre at night.

‘Officers are out on patrol to make sure people are safe, please go and chat with them if you’ve got any concerns.’
