Major London road to close for over a month in 2025 starting this week

A busy London road is set to close for 36 days in total over the next few months – starting on Friday.

The A40 Westway is an elevated part of the dual carriageway running between Paddington and North Kensington, connecting the London Inner Ring Road to the west London suburbs.

But Transport for London (TfL) will be closing the road for 14 days in one direction, and then 22 more days in the other.

The closures will start on January 3 and run on weekends until May 19.

TfL says they need to carry out ‘essential safety work’, and in order to minimise disruption the closures will only take place on weekends, and only in one direction at a time.

Despite this, TfL says diversion routes and local roads will be ‘extremely busy’ during the closures.

They’re asking locals to use public transport, walk, or cycle wherever possible during the closures – but add that buses won’t be using the A40 and so some routes will be disrupted.

Here’s the full list of closures:

January 3 to February 17

The eastbound carriageway will be closed every weekend in this period between 10pm on the Friday and 5am on the Monday.

The A40 Westway will be closed eastbound from the A3320 Westway roundabout to the A40 Marylebone flyover.
