Live snow maps show heavy blizzards hitting as far south as London and Cornwall

UK weather maps suggest southern parts of England including London and Cornwall should join the north in bracing for a snowstorm that could hit the country in less than two weeks.

November has brought a cold snap across the UK, with the Met Office issuing yellow warnings for snow and ice across a number of regions this week.

Now, new weather maps from WXCharts show the UK being hit with a huge snowbomb on December 11, spreading hundreds of miles from northern Scotland all the way down to Cornwall in the southwest.

On December 11 at around 6am, snow could reach up to 8cm in Scotland, with the mercury dropping to as low as -10C at around the same time. From there, the blizzards could move to areas in the south including London and Southampton, battering them with around 1cm of snowfall at midday.

The Arctic blitz then looks likely to move over Wales and Cornwall, with the latter experiencing depths of around 0.3cm by 12am on December 12.

And that’s not all, as temperatures are expected to drop to below freezing for parts of England in the same period, with areas around Carlisle at risk of a -10C plummet. Birmingham, Manchester and Cardiff are also among the areas forecast to see a below 0C drop.

The Met Office’s long-range forecast for December 4 to December 13 predicts overnight frost and fog and rain outbreaks in the north and west, with average temperatures for the time of year occasionally dropping on cooler days.

The forecast from December 14 to December 28 also suggests wintry showers and “cold interludes” bringing frost and fog.

This evening and tonight:

Some rain pushing eastward through the evening and overnight, though southern and eastern parts of England are expected to remain dry. Cooler temperatures in the east and milder in the west.

Saturday:

Mild temperatures across the UK with clouds, breezes and some patchy drizzle, especially in the north and west. Sunny spells in other areas.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Windy but mild on Sunday, with some rain moving eastwards. A dry and chilly start to the week with sunshine on Tuesday followed by some rain in western England.
