Incredible £200m plan for ‘building in the clouds’ to tower over huge UK city

London is already one of the world’s biggest and most important cities, with a population of nine million people.

But new plans to expand an area of the British capital will involve new buildings that will rise “to the clouds”.

The Wood Wharf is currently in the first phase of construction. It is being built in the Canary Wharf area and will ultimately form a new district for office space and housing.

The land where the buildings will be erected is currently underwater.

The first phase saw 12 different buildings with varying utilities.

Wood Wharf, designed by Allies and Morrison and Glenn Howells Architects, will “create 3,600 new homes, 2 million sq ft of high quality commercial office space, and a further 550,000 sq ft of shops, restaurants and community uses”, the Canary Wharf website states.

The project is being built with a £200million loan from the Government.

The Canary Wharf website says that the third phase of the construction is now near completion.

Speaking to the Telegraph in May, 44-year-old banker Daniel said he was one of the first to move into Wood Wharf.

He said: “It’s the only place I can see myself living in London.

“I decided to move for security reasons, convenience for my work, and the fact that they were building a new neighbourhood and new community where you can come from anywhere in the world.”
