Fears dad-of-two may have been murdered after missing flight home from Spain

John George, 37, was booked onto a flight from Spain to Belfast on December 18, but he never showed up

A dad-of-two who vanished days before a flight home from Spain has been found dead.

Police believe John George, 37, was murdered after discovering his body in the Costa Blanca area earlier today, three weeks after he went missing.

KRW Law, representing the George family, said: ‘The family are both distressed but also relieved at this latest news. It brings to an end an extremely tortuous search process for the body.’

Also known as John Hardy, the ‘normal, average guy’ had been due to fly home to Belfast on December 18 after a three-week trip to Alicante.

But his phone went dead on December 14 and he never showed up for his flight.

John had sounded ‘distressed’ in his last call with his family, who spent Christmas Eve and Christmas Day searching for him.

His body is yet to be formally identified through DNA testing, but it is almost certain that the clothes and tattoos are his, the Belfast Telegraph reports.

KRW Law said: ‘The family want to thank all who have helped and supported them over the last number of days.

‘They now respectfully ask for some privacy to allow them both time and space to engage on the next harrowing stages on what is now a formalised murder investigation.’

Police had investigated several suspects in the course of the missing person investigation.

One had called John’s family claiming the 37-year-old had been shot and dumped somewhere between Torrevieja and Benidorm, Belfast Telegraph reported.
