Elizabeth and Piccadilly line delays cause travel chaos affecting Heathrow

London Underground commuters are facing a double whammy of delays this morning with the Elizabeth and Piccadilly lines hobbled.

TfL says engineers are out repairing a faulty train track in Gidea Park, leading to severe delays between the station and Shenfield on the Elizabeth line.

There’s no service at all between Piccadilly line stations Rayners Lane and Uxbridge because of ‘poor rail conditions caused by significant leaf fall’. The lack of trains is rippling across the line, with minor delays from Acton Town to Heathrow Airport.

Thankfully, the travel gods have not impacted the Elizabeth line route to Heathrow Airport and the Heathrow Express is currently running just fine.

Drivers, meanwhile, are being warned to expect hold-ups of up to an hour and a half along the M6 after a vehicle broke down.

Drivers face one and a half hour delays

The M6 is the longest motorway in Britain – and today, it might feel especially long.

A broken down vehicle has led to massive logjams, with drivers warned of an hour and a half delays against traffic.

While on the M5, drivers are being warned to brace themselves of 40 minutes.

Motorists on the M5 aren’t exactly faring any better. Vehicles have piled up so much there are delays of 30 minutes on the tarmac.

The same goes for the M62, where a ‘road traffic condition’ is causing 30 minute delays that likely won’t ease up until 9am, according to National Highways.

TfL travel update

Two lines will be giving London Underground commuters headaches today.

For one, the Piccadilly line is both partly closed and being rattled by minor delays because of ‘significant’ leaf fall between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge.

While those heading out to Heathrow for flights probably shouldn’t take the Piccadilly line to the airport right now as there are minor delays between it and Acton Town ‘due to a shortage of trains’, TfL says.

Between Shenfield and Gidea Park there are severe delays whole TfL officials fix a fault with a track.
