Drivers who got a car between 2006 and 2015 could be part of £38m compensation

Lawyers acting for British motorists who were allegedly charged inflated prices to deliver vehicles to the UK have reportedly reached in-principle agreements with two shipping companies, WWL/EUKOR and K Line.

The firms are logistics giants which transport many of the world’s cars to business customers and consumers internationally, Sky News reports.

Motorists affected by the alleged cartel had purchased vehicles from some of the biggest names in carmaking including BMW, Ford, Nissan, Toyota, Vauxhall and Volkswagen, between October 2006 and September 2015.

The outlet is reporting that Mark McLaren, the class representative who brought the claim, and US-based dispute resolution law firm Scott+Scott, will disclose terms tomorrow, under which Mr McLaren has agreed a £24.5m settlement with WWL/EUKOR and a £13.25m deal with K Line, according to the claimant’s representatives.

The reported settlements will have to be approved by the Competition Appeal Tribunal later this week. It follows a £1.5m settlement with another shipping company, CSAV, which was given the go-head last December.

Should it be approved two outstanding claims are left worth an estimated £100m against two other defendants, MOL and NYK. A trial is due to commence in January.

Belinda Hollway, head of Scott+Scott London said the in-priciple agreements “are a very positive development for class members and demonstrate the claim’s momentum ahead of the trial against the remaining defendants in January”.
