This is the heartstopping moment a woman pushing a pram narrowly avoiding getting run over by a driver during a high-speed police chase.

Jack Williamson, 29, led officers on the dangerous pursuit around Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, on September 14.

Police dash-cam footage shows a woman with a pushchair was just feet away from getting ploughed into as Williamson drove through a pedestrianised area.

He drove on the wrong side of the road, mounted a kerb to overtake other road users and drove through red lights in a bid to evade capture.

The woman was quickly forced to move out of the way as the disqualified driver hurtled through a red light in the town centre.

Williamson hit speeds of 70mph in a 30mph zone before abandoning his vehicle in a pub car park and hiding in a bush by the roadside.

However, he was sniffed out by Police Dog Seth and his handler, who were able to trace Williamson’s scent from the driver’s seat to his hiding place nearby.

Williamson, a banned driver who has previously been jailed for a similar offence, gave himself up to officers and was arrested at the scene.

He answered no comment in interview but later pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified and driving without insurance.

Williamson, of Huthwaite, Nottinghamshire, was jailed for 14 months at Nottingham Crown Court on Monday.

Detective Sergeant Clint Gloyn, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: ‘This was an appalling and reckless display of driving that put other road users and pedestrians in danger.

‘At one point a woman pushing a pram was forced to take evasive action as Williamson drove through a pedestrianised area.

‘He then hid from our officers and may well have remained undiscovered without the intervention of Seth, who was able to track Williamson’s scent from the car to his hiding place.

‘Using additional CCTV footage, we were also able to prove that Williamson had got out of the driver’s seat before fleeing the scene.

‘All in all, he had little choice but to plead guilty and will now spend more time behind bars as a result.’
