Check your change for three British coins worth staggering £130,000 each

It is not uncommon to have a jar of change lying around the house.

Some find it useful to ensure there is always change for the ice cream van, car parking or for a locker at they gym, but there could be a different, more lucrative use for those coins.

A UK coin expert is warning Brits to check their loose change as an early retirement could be lurking among your coppers and shrapnel.

The expert, best known online as the Coin Collector UK has shared on social media the details of three coins that could be worth almost £130,000.

The Coin Collector UK shared details on TikTok of a penny coin from 1933, a 50 pence coin from 2011 and a £2 coin from 2014 that could be worth a fortune.

As he shared the details of a rare 1p coin from 1933, he said: “One of these old pennies sold at auction for £127,000.

“The year you need to find is 1933. Less than 10 of these were ever produced. These are worth huge money with one selling for well over £100,000 pounds. And another for about £86,000.”

Of a 50p coin produced in 2011 to mark the London 2012 Olympics but done so with a specific error he said: “The Olympic Aquatics coin can be worth £2,000 if you find the error.

“You need to check if the lines are covering the face like the ones on the rest of the coin. It’s thought that only 500 were produced before they changed it to this design without the lines.”

The final coin that could prove to be the gateway to a fortune is a rare £2 coin sporting the face of Lord Kitchener to commemorate the start of the First World War.

The coin contains an error which means that it does not have the words “two pounds” on the side near the Queens face.

Coin Collector UK said: “Finally, this Lord Kitchener £2, which you can find in your change can be worth £800.

“If yours doesn’t say ‘two pounds’ at the bottom, then you are onto a winner. Only a handful of these have been found. This is called a mule era.

“So, get looking for any of these coins in your change.”
